If a hundred nobodies leave a reply to some statement by a person that matters, it does not cancel out that statement.

Propaganda can and does influence public opinion; numerous verified historical examples exist. It was already an issue that needed to be solved (IMO) long before GPT-3 was created. Advanced ML techniques seem likely to further exacerbate a problem that already exists.
