Wondering what D.E. Shaw did after getting rich? He used his money for building a specialized super computer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anton_(computer) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anton_(computer)) which runs molecular dynamics simulations for drug development. His 2008 computer still runs molecular dynamics simulations about an order of magnitude faster than general purpose super computers in 2020.
