Personally, what I miss is translucency! I'd really like to see translucent electronics make a comeback, it was always neat to see the inner workings.

- gugagore 6y agoYou might enjoy this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3PfsndsihY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3PfsndsihY It's about electronic devices designed to be used in prison, so they're intentionally made transparent.
- soylentcola 6y agoNot that there aren't plenty of eyesores among them, but there are loads of computer cases with huge tempered glass windows (and I've even seen a decent number of them made of clear acrylic panels). I guess that's more transparency than translucency, but it's easy to put together a workstation with visible internals. You don't even have to load it up with rainbow LEDs if you don't want it looking like some hot rodder's ground effects ;)
- thaumasiotes 6y agoBuying a case without contents, this problem is bizarrely ubiquitous: http://chainsawsuit.com/tag/case-mod/ http://chainsawsuit.com/tag/case-mod/
- ksec 6y agoYes. When I first saw the AirPod Pic [1], I thought there was going to be a translucent version. Not only that, I wish 20 years after G4 Cube we could figure out way for translucent casing not turn yellow after a few years. - nonesuchluck 6y agoBy and large, translucent electronics made today wouldn't be as visually interesting as, say, a clear Game Boy. Ultrabooks and smartphones are about 90% battery, there's not much to see besides a flat boring slab. But those AirPods are gorgeous, I would throw mine in a lake and buy those in a heartbeat.
