I don't get it. If it's the "same university, same course, same results", which one is the "better" school?

  I believe that "school" here means "high school" or below.

    Correct - I suspect that if you ask anyone in the UK where they went to school they'd tell you where they were before university (i.e. primary or secondary schools).
