A pretty outrageous non-answer. It is the states, in concert with the electoral college, that certify elections, not the federal government from what I understand.
- dragonwriter 6y ago> It is the states, in concert with the electoral college, that certify elections, not the federal government from what I understand. You understand incorrectly. The electoral college is the collection of people (elected, generally, by voters in the states who vote with ballots that look like they are voting for President, but in fact are voting for a slate of electors) that cast votes in Presidential elections, not the body that certifies them. Congress counts and certifies the result. But Trump isn’t talking about certification, anyway, he is talking about abiding by the results, and is saying that he is not committed to leaving office even if he is voted out; in other words, he is openly holding open the possibility that he will stage an auto-coup rather than leave office if he is voted out.
