Genius. Open source it so that only the most committed nerds like us would actually use this.
God forbid they actually put a BUTTON somewhere in the actual UI to initiate the transfer. God forbid, people might actually USE THIS.
No build or usage instructions in teh README: https://github.com/google/data-transfer-project https://github.com/google/data-transfer-project
All the Documentation is instructions on how to build custom data transfer projects for YOUR service rather than how to actually use it with Facebook and Google Photos: https://github.com/google/data-transfer-project/tree/master/Documentation https://github.com/google/data-transfer-project/tree/master/...
- njsubedi 6y agoThey seem to be still working on it. Other providers are still working on it, so there's a possibility of everything you asked for. Documentation can be added, and hopefully those buttons too.
- PeterStuer 6y agoOne has to wonder then: is this coordinated stalling?
- renewiltord 6y agoI thought you were being harsh as HN is wont to be but when I tried to use the product there was nothing. There is no product. There is a nice big announcement in 2018. There's this announcement at the end of 2019. But there is no actual functionality. It looks like vaporware.
- declanjscott 6y agoI just initiated a transfer to Google Photos at https://www.facebook.com/dtp/ https://www.facebook.com/dtp/
- renewiltord 6y agoAh ha, thank you.
- darren_ 6y agoIt's an ongoing project, most of the frontend stuff simply hasn't actually been made yet. So far one tool has been launched: https://www.theverge.com/2020/4/30/21241093/facebook-google-photos-transfer-tool-data https://www.theverge.com/2020/4/30/21241093/facebook-google-... and i really doubt they're going to stop with just that.

- dmd 6y agoAre you looking for https://www.facebook.com/dtp/ https://www.facebook.com/dtp/ ?
- kissgyorgy 6y agoBro, it's literally two clicks away from the Facebook front page!
- classified 6y agoJust another of FB’s PR stunts, for those who still believe a word they say.
