I don't agree with this take. Here you have a person who is faced with a life-threatening illness and a brutal treatment plan: the temptation of an alternative cure that seems to have some following online is very strong. There is a kernel of truth to a lot of these alternative medicines, so it's easy for people to say "what if it's true?", and in desperation people will often latch onto these things.
