an interesting aspect of this is the aversion to traditional therapy caused by experiencing it the first time and how much it made him suffer, I wonder how much of the motivation was due to that versus how much was due to the "false hope" I also wonder if this is a argument for there being value in investing in ways of making chemotherapy less traumatic even though it wouldn't be making it more effective, just less psychological damage
