There is certainly some parallels but I doubt things will get so far. It is in China's interest to stall for time. As their growth is higher than USA's, they will eventually have a bigger military and the US will be unable to fight a war over the South China sea. Trump however is a joker. If he stands to loose the coming election he may choose to provoke a conflict.
