this article and this comment thread are both infuriatingly conspiratorial. Facebook may become a defacto standard for an internet ID but its power lies in having people willingly share information about their lives. This would cease immediately if the US government mandated it as a form of ID etc. Which kind of contradicts the company's goals... no?
