- bad_user 6y agoI don't see a conflict. European countries have had consumer protection laws that are different from those in the US and US companies have had to comply. This situation is no different. The EU wants privacy & security guarantees that US companies can't deliver and special deals with the US government can't really fix that. But I'm sure US companies will adapt eventually. And this goes in both directions of course. For example European banks have to be really careful in dealing with US citizens due to laws like FATCA.

- the_svd_doctor 6y agoI don’t know if that’s sarcastic, but banks are scared to hell to deal with US citizens. They won’t ask you to fill the other box, they just won’t deal with you.
- sebazzz 6y agoIt is not sarcastic - my bank (ING) has these in the forms, for instance when getting started with their stock buying program.
- lokedhs 6y agoMany banks will not allow US citizens to open accounts for that reason. If they have any US account holders, they will have to report to their tax authority.
