TL;DR: wanted to leverage GPUs for computation (but couldn't), the ergonomics of arrays in Rust for scientific computing without the use of ndarray are not good, had memory bandwidth issues to keep cache lines fed, performance of the two implementations is comparable One of the things I find interesting is how the Fortran version is faster both with small and huge inputs, while the Rust version is faster for input sizes in the middle.
