The US has nearly half of the worlds aircraft carriers (20 out if 43). It also has the 10 or 11 largest carriers in the world, and about two thirds of world aircraft carrier tonnage. All of these carriers cost billions, the largest group over $10B each. It is speculated that modern anti-carrier missiles make them expensive sitting ducks in any serious shooting war.
