$18k
- srg0 6y agoThat's a pretty low price tag. Universal Robots are popular for research, and from what I heard start at around $30k. KUKA LBR iiwa is more like $100-200k.
- bigtones 6y agoBut it can do your washing !
- prerok 6y agoInstabuy if it can iron too! :)
- smabie 6y agoThat seems pretty cheap, tbh.
- SV_BubbleTime 6y agoDoes it? Having worked with robotics in mfg, part of the cost is stiffness. A stiff arm and mounts means repeatable actions. In the video this thing was flexing all over the place. It’s cool, no doubt. But it seems a well placed LEGO could nearly shut it down. I’m not seeing 18k as “cheap” in any sense here. Maybe I just don’t understand the business model or what goes into this.
- jankassens 6y agoThat's the small scale developer edition. I don't know anything about home robots, but to me this seems to be the first design that is practical to bring to consumers. Not 2 human arms (or even legs) and some expensive face, but instead just a Roomba-ish base, telescope arm with grabber that moves up and down, camera on top.
- atupis 6y agoYeah, they should go here price first and make cheap hackable platform that would be awsome.
- verroq 6y agoAt $1.8k it would be amazing, at $18k it's a big stretch. I would buy it at $1.8k.
- samtheprogram 6y agoNo pun intended? :)
- verroq 6y agoPun intended :)
- rawrmaan 6y agoNo, it’s a regular sized Stretch!
- snovv_crash 6y ago$1.8k buys you a mid-range bicycle. $2.5k buys you a high end laptop. Both of those are made in millions. This is roughly a combo of the two. So I'd guess that with sufficient volume this could get down to the $5k mark.
- staz 6y agoand a iRobot Create 2 is $0.2k
- bArray 6y agoUnfortunately, looking at it I doubt they would get the price point down to $1.8k easily. Maybe $5k at a push, but more than likely some consumer edition might cost more or less the same. That said, I doubt this bot will ever make it to the stage of being a consumer bot. The sorts of problems that need to be solved are on the scale of that of autonomous vehicles, probably even harder.
