Like others I had a negative experience in a "normal" school. Not because of the other pupils but because of the system and (some of) the teachers. Kids will be kids regardless (aside from problematic settings such as coming from abusive and/or broken homes). I was a curious child and school did nothing to encourage that, if anything at best it failed to discourage me from learning. It seemed to have little intent beyond keeping kids busy so parents can work & sort them from most to least competent.
