Gassée actually significantly understates the power consumption difference between the Intel chip in his MBP and an iPad Pro. MBP 13s sustain around 35 watts of power indefinitely. An 12X sustains only around 10 watts.
- dr_zoidberg 6y agoYes, but I read this: > think faster, svelter laptops actually lasting 10 hours on a battery charge. ...and I instantly think of HP's Envy x360 w/Ryzen 4500U pulling almost 14 hours of battery life in productivity tests. I Apple wants to stand out, it will have to push closer to 20hs on a charge. Not saying they can't, saying it'll be a stretch. And great if they pull it.
- icedchai 6y agoI'm mainly a Mac user, but recently bought one of these Ryzen laptops. The performance is amazing, especially for a low end / "budget" laptop.
- dr_zoidberg 6y agoI'm not sure Apple will be able to exceed Ryzens[0] performance (as perceived by the user). They could get to match it, and of course having tighter integration between hardware and OS will give them opportunities to optimize and tune beyond what Windows and Linux can do having to support a wider range of hardware. [0] I'm considering Zen 2 "the best performing x86" (with a small grain of salt). If Intel wants to take that crown with Tiger Lake I'm all for it.
