I’d highly recommend looking into Amplify Console for hosting static sites on AWS. Behind the scenes you’re still running on s3/cloudfront so you don’t need to worry about scalability, but you’ll get automatic https, build and deploy pipeline hooked into your github repo, per branch environments, etc.
