What about the threat to all the adults?
Lots of teachers. Janitors. Chefs. Administrators. Support staff.
- vvanders 6y agoYeah, the push to re-open schools just seems like a bad idea on multiple fronts, this part included. A few teachers I follow are being asked to name someone who can "replace" them if they contract covid. I can't wrap my head around putting people in harm's way like that willingly when we don't have any control over the outbreak.
- claudeganon 6y agoSchool districts are already preparing form letters for when kids and teachers die. It’s the height of nihilism when compared to what countries in SE Asia have accomplished in stopping the disease.
- Blackthorn 6y agoAmazing that they pay them like crap and then expect them to put their lives on the line. I have no idea why anyone would ever bother becoming a teacher in 2020.
- baldfat 6y agoThis goes back 25 years. It is even more so if you are the first in your family to go to college. There will be a huge shortage of teachers and there already is a HUGE diversity problem with most minority groups do not go to school for teaching as a profession.
- mixmastamyk 6y agoFew of them are elderly, or unhealthy and if they are probably seriously considering retirement if they haven't already.
- ceejayoz 6y agoPlenty of older, overweight, diabetics, etc. in school staff, just like the general population. Half the country has a COVID comorbidity.
- mixmastamyk 6y agoNot if you want to keep up with kids. Young people need work too. As I said, getting in shape or early retirement is better than the alternative. Kids needs should come first; they outnumber staff 25 to 1.
- ceejayoz 6y agoMy kids just finished fifth grade. The teachers look like a representative sample of the community. How much running are you imagining happens in a classroom? No one’s going to go from obese and diabetic to fit and healthy in two months.
- mixmastamyk 6y agoPossible and their choice. Kids first.
- ceejayoz 6y agoKids don’t get a great education if all the teachers are in quarantine. Or if they all quit or go on strike.
- mixmastamyk 6y agoNow the goalpost has been moved to all the staff, eh?
