I was outstandingly lucky! Most of my work came by word of mouth. I live in a comparatively small town in a small country, I used to work in a small but tight-knit industry, and I have an unusual name. I tried to make sure to have coffee with someone every week and the work just came in. It didn't seem to matter who the coffee was with, as long as I did it to keep my name current. Hence the lack of recruiting experience.
