Arm Macs won't support (real) Target Disk Mode
- uniqueid 6y agoTDM was always my favorite feature of post Classic Macs. When Apple started abusing the Mac line (eg: ports, extra cables, magsafe, the ability to buy an external display) I joked that one day they'd remove TDM. And seven years later, it's actually happening. Using SMB to deal with a corrupt drive sounds like a massive pain. If I ever buy another Mac, I'll be booting off an external drive (though it's a matter of time till Apple walls that ability off, just wait!). The internal soldered, encrypted, TDM-via-SMB ssd doesn't sound like a place I want to store my work. Looks like I'll just be using it as a big cache folder. This stinks.
