IANAL, and other disclaimers. Prescriptive easement is not intended to apply to physical encroachment. It's intended to apply to right of way and ingress/egress issues. Otherwise, it would be an end-run around having to pay for the property. I don't think that principle would apply in GP's case. Adverse possession, however, may apply.
