Nice! Mine was similar, for a browser game called Tribal Wars. Same stack; I (ab)used the referrer header to determine who was requesting the image (from a village ID in the header). I'd embed it in tribe forum posts to mark people as read, display dynamic stats for points, tribes, villages and such. Sometimes I'd do shenanigans like "[current person] is a noob". It really threw people in a loop as nobody had developed anything similar ;)
