Snowden uncovered astonishing breaches of Trust in the US, has there been a major loss of Hosts here?
- brobdingnagians 6y agoI accept the principle; I wish people would take more action, but I for one am American and I have shifted most of my hosting out of the US because of it. I probably don't have much worth spying on, but on principle I oppose any form of blanket surveillance.
- sneak 6y agoNope, everyone happily shovels all of their data, as well as all of the data their customers provide them, into AWS, which is very cosy with the US military. You can be reasonably certain that anything in AWS is available to US military intelligence without judicial oversight.
- throwawayway9 6y agoEvery American service and product needs to be treated as compromised, it really comes down to that. Individual companies now need to earn back basic trust. This doesn't mean you have to completely abandon your favourite service, just have to modify the way you utilize it. For example, if you absolutely have to use Google Drive, be sure to encrypt your files with appropriate strength first and assume they are actively trying to decrypt and build a file on you.
