There's no right way, you could praise the hell out of something and conclude that you wanted to write your own just to gain the experience, and someone will still call you an idiot for re-inventing the wheel or find something to complain about. You simply can't make everyone happy. Don't try. If someone sees value in your work, let them in, if they want to cry about it, ignore them. Life's too short to deal with twats.
