Lying is never a defensible policy. If there was reasonable concern about run on PPE, then perhaps government order restricting or banning their sale to general population (like it was done by some governments) should be considered.
- arcticbull 6y agoLying is absolutely a defensible strategy when done for the greater good. That doesn’t mean that there hasn’t been a ton of clowny behavior from leadership.
- babesh 6y agoIt destroys public trust. What do you now say to people who refuse to wear masks? Do you say "I was lying to you earlier for the greater good, but now I'm not." Why should they ever listen to you again? You could be lying again.
- m4rtink 6y agoThis is exactly what was done here in Czech Republic - sale of high grade PPE to public was banned, massive PPE shipments ordered and home made masks made mandatory everywhere. This seems to have been effective, as most of the restrictions have been lifted and we are back to sporadic local clusters by now.
