Another interesting design of these anchor store Walmarts is that it's even less common to have a method of entering the Walmart from inside the mall itself. You usually need to leave the mall and re-enter the Walmart from outside (I've even seen a JC Penney be replaced by a Walmart, who walled up the indoor entrance). I don't know if it's a loss prevention tactic or some other strategy, but I've found it unusual.
- ghaff 6y agoI've never seen a Walmart attached to an indoor mall. Maybe it's a regional thing. Your description is interesting though. The whole purpose of a traditional anchor store is to draw people inside the mall so that they visit all the little stores that they'd never be bothered to visit if it weren't for the anchor store. If you make people go outside again to enter the mall that defeats the purpose to a significant degree. Which is fine for Walmart. Not so good for the mall.
- bentcorner 6y agoYeah, it might be regional. Although even the ones I've seen have been fairly rare. Here's an anchor store Walmart that is close to where I used to live a long time ago: https://goo.gl/maps/G6xuLEHu4MMn1gBS9 https://goo.gl/maps/G6xuLEHu4MMn1gBS9 You can't get into this Walmart from inside the mall.
