Adding to the "Ambition vs. Reality" section- COVID-19 has shown Americans have no tolerance for even minor inconveniences like wearing a mask. The minute something gets more expensive or a high-density housing project gets approved in someone's neighborhood the bellyaching about how the climate projections and expert opinions are wrong will begin. Any climate legislation must come with a cultural shift or enough barbs that it cannot be easily repealed.
- pizzazzaro 6y agoThats the crux of so many world problems. Actually addressing them, in the name of human survival and/or universal human dignity? Means a bunch of Northern-Hemisphere, Western, mostly European-descended people have to give up on a host of conveniences. Some of these conveniences are minor, some are major. Fresh strawberries in Winter becoming impossible again on a wide scale? Coffee and Tea being a potentially unobtainable luxury? Actually SORTING your waste, even sorting distinct kinds of plastics into separate bins? No more wide availability of intercontinental travel? No more trans-continental road trips?! Karen is gonna be pissed that she cant have her daily coconut milk latte unless she lives near where both coffee and coconuts grow.
