Less than 1 percent of Americans are participating in the protests, mostly bored college students getting out of their parents' house. But their actions are going to be the best get out the vote campaign for the silent majority in history.
- 38eueheh 6y agoFor the right maybe, no one is going to feel motivated to vote if they think they're in-part supporting a party that hand waves away riots. Won't affect the youth and college demos much but I'd be shocked if property owners and retirees felt more compelled to vote now that they've seen the kind of support they can count on from local and state government. Not ideal considering that historically the elderly are one of the most consistent blocs in terms of voter turnout.
- neonate 6y agoLast I checked, the polling data was showing that a strong majority of Americans supported BLM and the protests. If a "silent majority" backlash is happening, it must be a recent development.
- CrackerNews 6y agoDon't forget about the many now unemployed youths (due to the pandemic) still dissatisfied with the system since Occupy.
