- kn0where 6y agoNorwegian is not the main airline of Norway (that would be SAS in conjunction with Sweden and Denmark). Norwegian is (was?) a low cost airline that expanded too fast and used various subsidiaries to incorporate most of their airline in other countries like Argentina or the UK. They have very little in actual assets, they’ve been hurt three times over by 787 engine issues, the 737 MAX, and now COVID, and now their creditors are taking whatever scraps are left.
- walkingolof 6y agoNorway does not (and have not since 2018) owned a part of SAS, while SAS is still the Norwegian flag carrier.
- ThinkBeat 6y agoSoon they will again. (due to the crisis)
- walkingolof 6y agoNo, SAS just closed funding without Norway.
- ThinkBeat 6y agoum. Are you saying there needs to be a global ban on allowing Chinese entities to invest? Why would not some entity in China be allowed to own a share?
- apta 6y agoI don't think that would be a bad idea given that any major Chinese firm is almost surely tied to their government, and we see what chaos they're causing world wide.
- djohnston 6y agoI kind of get it but I'm not sure it's fair when the other hand is boeing, who is as married to the govt as any American company could hope to be
- NicoJuicy 6y agoSince we can't do the same in the Chinese market.
- throw774321 6y agoDon’t SoftBank and Yahoo own a huge chunk of Alibaba? Uber also owns a large portion of DiDi.
- NicoJuicy 6y agoThey just received foreign investment money for startups ( then) from companies not tied to a government. All Chinese companies have a party leader in their board and seem to take over critical infrastructure ( telecom, finance, harbors, logistics, energy) or contain privacy-sensitive info. Even if it's games, then suddenly censorship is applied ( tournaments/chats). And I hope you know why Uber even has shares in Didi :)
- yumraj 6y agoYes, ASAP.
- marvin 6y agoConversion of debt to equity. The alternative was bankruptcy, triggered by the coronavirus crisis. Norwegian is privately founded and owned. No government involvement. No bailout.
