If you try to use a relative domain name (typing webtest01 instead of webtest01.mydomain.com, when your DNS resolves those two to the same address), for some reason Firefox thinks I want to search the web. I don't understand why.
Even worse, if you use a full domain name (web.test), and even if you specify a port (web.test:8080), Firefox thinks you want to search. Those are valid domains that resolve on my network.
- christophergray 6y agoYou can type in webtest01/ but the other ones you have to type in the http:// http://
- zzo38computer 6y agoI don't like that either, but on my computer I added a code to make it treat URLs entered in the location bar as relative, so if you just type "web.test" it will try to access the file called "web.test" relative to whatever document is currently open.
- paulryanrogers 6y agoIt could be for safety as well since some scams may rely on unusual TLDs for exploits. Regardless, browsers are becoming like Word. Most use only 10% but everyone wants/needs a different 10% slice of functionality.
