Stripe CEO urge US business to condemn atrocities committed by CCP on its people
- baylearn 6y agoPaul Graham, of Y Combinator, commented on Patrick Collison's tweet: “It is not without cost for the head of a global business to take this kind of stand, which is why you see so few doing it.” https://twitter.com/paulg/status/1277853802096398338 https://twitter.com/paulg/status/1277853802096398338
- mtgx 6y agoMeanwhile others actively seek to do whatever it takes to get into China (see Google's Sundar Pichai, FB's Zuckerberg, etc).
- redis_mlc 6y agoXi, Hitler, Stalin. Same monsters, just different names. This is what evil looks like: China forcing birth control on Uighurs to suppress population, report says https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-53220713 https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-53220713 If you don't know what an IUD is, or what the side-effects are, I suggest you read about it.
- stevens32 6y ago> For decades, China had one of the most extensive systems of minority entitlements in the world, with Uighurs and others getting more points on college entrance exams, hiring quotas for government posts and laxer birth control restrictions. Under China’s now-abandoned ‘one child’ policy, the authorities had long encouraged, often forced, contraceptives, sterilization and abortion on Han Chinese. But minorities were allowed two children — three if they came from the countryside. This is what evil looks like?
- redis_mlc 6y ago1) Yes it is. Stop being a useful idiot for the CCP. 2) Here is a good overview of current affairs with China: Has Trump Undone Communist China More than We Realize? (2018) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnweGOmQWds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnweGOmQWds

- stevens32 6y agoIt is horrible, you're right. The parent comment implied it was evil to mistreat minorities - absolutely true. But in the article that was linked it mentions that they were treated better than the majority, and were now reduced to the same (horrible) treatment of the majority. This is an altogether different crime due to mistakes in policy that lead to overpopulation. Would the Nazi Germans ever have let Jewish people have fewer restrictions and easier access to government positions? No. The comparison as presented here is untenable.
- kohtatsu 6y agoOh god, not the cost! Fuck humans; let's earn some cash. IUD procedures are actually awful, it involves a speculum, a needle to the cervix, and a device for spreading it to insert the IUD. They last 3-10 years depending on size, and are not risk free. My girlfriend had cramps for months, and went to the hospital 4 times from the pain with the smallest IUD.
- mytailorisrich 6y agoYC seems to have had a biff with the Chinese government. They abandoned plans to expand to China at the end of last year without too much details (afaik). Something must have happened and clearly there is no love lost.
- stevens32 6y agoThis guy is the primary source of the article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adrian_Zenz https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adrian_Zenz
- SheinhardtWigCo 6y agoThe edit history for this article, and your recent comment history, are quite fascinating.
- baylearn 6y agoHe clearly has an agenda.
- stevens32 6y agoI just don't want to live in a divisive and post-fact world. It is both sad and scary that this is "fascinating" and "clearly an agenda".
- mytailorisrich 6y agoThe pointer to the source of this claim is useful and informative. The bigger the claim the bigger the scrutiny should be. Whether true or not, Zenz's claim seems to be bought without question because it is useful for the current narrative against China, and this is not healthy. In fact it is counterproductive.
- stevens32 6y agoYou're right, it is fascinating. I looked through the edit history and it seems like there's an ongoing effort to remove the references to his other beliefs. Among the referenced articles which have been scrubbed from his wiki: https://thegrayzone.com/2019/12/21/china-detaining-millions-uyghurs-problems-claims-us-ngo-researcher/ https://thegrayzone.com/2019/12/21/china-detaining-millions-...
- ryuukk_ 6y agothey should do the same for the US government commiting atrocities to its own citizens and people in the middle east
- nimchimpsky 6y agoThere are thousands of morally bankrupt activities happening on a large scale he could choose to highlight.
- foolzcrow 6y agoChina uses slave labor and we eat it up while chanting rhymes about how we love freedom and black lives. It's really telling.
