I suspect, atheism itself will become an organized religion several decades from now.
- robg 18y agoI think in some circles it already has. (Don't know why you got down-voted.)
- olavk 18y agoI think Unitarian Universalsm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unitarian_Universalism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unitarian_Universalism is some kind of organized atheism.
- mechanical_fish 18y agoSsh! Do not inflame the coffee-fueled wrath of the Unitarian Jihad! http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2005/04/08/DDG27BCFLG1.DTL http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/ar... Seriously, though... despite the fact that some UUs are indeed atheists, most of them (including many of the atheists) would disagree with this statement.
- gregwebs 18y agoit is acceptable to be a UU and believe in God or not believe in God. That is why some people think UU is not a religion- it doesn't have dogma.
- dfranke 18y agoand if you don't think they're tolerant enough, there's always http://www.themonastery.org/ http://www.themonastery.org/
- gnaritas 18y ago"I suspect, baldness itself will become an accepted hair color several decades from now". See how silly that sounds? Atheism is not nor will it ever be a religion.
- cousin_it 18y agoIt's happened long ago: Communism. One of the central dogmates: "Religion is opium for the people" (Marx). It went all the way here in Russia: purposely desecrating churches, blowing them up, using them as warehouses, shitting on icons etc.; newspapers named "Atheist" or "Blasphemer"; killing priests en masse as "reactionary elements".
