BetterWorldBooks.com is the closest to feeling like a bookstore in website form. But overall I agree, I love the idea of trying to capture the sense of serendipity and staff recommendations. It's tricky, since you can't "wander around" a website. Books are the most human thing we have: they're literally paper bricks that contain peoples' thoughts. It feels like we're missing something to present them online in the same way we sell socks.
