As a husband, parent of 3 young kids, and full-time dev, I only have time for classes, assignments, and exams. At my local University (UM-Flint), I pay almost $2,000 per 3 credit class. I’m also enrolled at Arizona State, which charges me about the same for its online-only experience because I’m “out-of-state”. In a way, I am subsidizing other students’ non-academic activities which probably have a net negative effect on society.
From a selfish and ideological standpoint, I would love to see non-academic aspects of universities dismantled.
- madengr 6y ago$666/hour is insane. When I was in grad school (University of Kansas) 25 years ago, it was about $80. I only paid 1 semester, then got a TA for one class that paid full tuition (not that it cost more than $1k/semester). Though that’s what it is now at KU, $10k for a 15 credit-hour semester is $666/hour.
