Pure HTML with progressive enhancement has worked fine for 30 years and will continue so for many more. But a good, lasting product is incompatible with the current "take the money and run" business strategy and analytics for management. If it works well for so many people, what can we do?
- aboringusername 6y agoThat's all well and good but go and visit some random websites and see how many of them depend on sites like unpkg or jsdelivr or something. Every time you try to load a resource from a domain you're introducing a huge risk by letting them be the judge, jury and executioner. Domain gets hacked and injects malicious scripts or collects user data? Domain fails entirely (no-renew) or in 10 years just stops responding? A lot of web pages today have built in self-destruct features purely based on the JS/resources they're loading. For 0 benefit, as well, since the amount of BW saved in so marginal.
