To Dr. Hossenfelder, climate change is more important that a bigger collider. But to the people actually funding the research with their own money, the perception may be the opposite. Oh, wait, the "people" funding it are actually governments who fund research using other people's money. That might explain why so much expensive nonsense like colliders or Neanderthal genomes is funded! Maybe we should change that.
