Free speech advocates keep talking about the need for diversity of opinion, but they don't realise that they're so toxic they drive considerable numbers of people away, creating the very echo chambers they claim to dislike.
- proc0 6y agoBullshit, "toxic" speech is solved by exposing it and then allowing MORE free speech to counter it, and this is granting the giant fallacy that "toxic" speech is a thing, which it really isn't. That label plus many others are just tools for justifying censorship. You slap a label on someone and BAM, you don't need to process those ideas anymore. Isn't it possible to hold an idea in your head without allowing that idea to take over your mind? I can't imagine how much people live in fear thinking that you might accidentally read something and then somehow it changes you completely without you noticing. What a horrible existence that is.
