Pretty strange that Facebook tries aggressively to get you to sign up to Facebook just for viewing this post. There's a giant modal with a huge picture of Mark's face telling you to "See more of Mark Zuckerberg on Facebook".
You'd think they'd disable that for critical announcements like this.
- ccktlmazeltov 6y agoI find these kind of comments not really constructive. You'd think everyone has a facebook account by now, or that people can create an account to read something that is important to them. It's not like it's a paywall.
- mthoms 6y agoYou're missing the entire point. Facebook's actions/policies affect me, and the society around me, even as a non-user.
- ccktlmazeltov 6y agoso is TV, and radio, and foreign governments, and ... see where I'm going with this?
- mthoms 6y agoI don't have to compromise my privacy/identity/values to consume those sources. So, no. Not the same thing. Not even close.
- ccktlmazeltov 6y agohummmmm.... elephant in the room [1] also you don't have to compromise your privacy to create an account on fb, just create a bogus one. - mthoms 6y agoMaybe that's an elephant in your room. Not in mine.
- ccktlmazeltov 6y agoin the room of a lot of people who have no idea :)
- colinmhayes 6y agoFacebook is incredibly invasive. I don't want an account.
- ccktlmazeltov 6y agoThen don't read this guy's post
- tennineeight 6y agoIt is a paywall. I pay with my data.
- microcolonel 6y agoIt's optional, click "not now". Or don't run their javascript.
- ccktlmazeltov 6y agoI assure you that you can create an account without giving them any of your so precious data
- mthoms 6y agoYour tone is condescending and childish. If people want to preserve their anonymity to consume what is basically a public announcement, that's certainly reasonable.
- ccktlmazeltov 6y ago> Your tone is condescending and childish it's one way to reply to FUD
- mthoms 6y agoExcept absolutely no-one takes childish comments seriously. In fact, they actively detract from what is otherwise a civilized, respectful discussion. But, if it makes you feel better. Have at it.
- Knuthtruth 6y agoNot everything has to be. Sometimes people just voice their opinions. And they are allowed to do so. The same freedom allows you to critique his comment and I, yours.
- aendruk 6y agoYeah it's pretty jarring to have this suddenly stare you down while trying to read. https://i.imgur.com/2f8hLqs.jpg https://i.imgur.com/2f8hLqs.jpg
- genr8 6y agoThis is what happened to my browser immediately after clicking that link, closing it, and opening a new window. https://i.imgur.com/3O60uZJ.png https://i.imgur.com/3O60uZJ.png Brand new behavior to freak me out...
- merrvk 6y agoThe guy is a complete freak
- seppin 6y agoThey sold the digital equivalent of crack for so long, they never had to learn marketing.
- aendruk 6y agoI don’t understand why this was flagged. My thinking in sharing a screenshot was that these kinds of sites often show different things to different people (e.g. by locale, browser size, session history, etc.) so it would be helpful to document the context of the parent comment. That the modal comes across so poorly suggests a naivety on the part of Facebook that is relevant to understanding the announcement.
