My objection to this is that I'm really bad at anticipating where interesting or useful information will come from. Many times I've been watching or reading something and find a offhand that is really useful to some part of my life. If I only read the stuff I suspect of being useful before I start, there's less of a chance to be surprised by useful information. Is that efficient? Bot really. It's enjoyable though.
