I was surprised by Leonora, Western Australia being there with it's population of 556 [1], I tried to find a bigger town in the area but couldn't.
I wonder if that is the smallest town on that map?

- lb1lf 6y agoSounds plausible; I was just looking up a few of the eastern Siberian towns - Ust-Nera (143E, 64N or so) at 6,500 inhabitants, Bilibino (167E, 68N) - also home to the world's northernmost nuclear power plant, 6,000 inhabitants...) Closer to (my) home - Vardø (2,000) and Hammerfest (8,000) at the extreme north of Norway. Positively crowded!
- gbear605 6y agoThere’s Ittoqqortoormiit [1] on there too at a population of 452. [1]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ittoqqortoormiit https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ittoqqortoormiit

- cosminratiu 6y agoAlert in northern Canada has 62 permanent inhabitants, according to wikipedia [1] [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alert,_Nunavut https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alert,_Nunavut
- AMerrit 6y agoI had a friend who worked up in Alert while he was in the air force. It may be one of the most remote places on the map, it's essentially an out grown air force base/research station, there would be nothing there if not for the cold war.
