I didn't know this yet it doesn't bother me. In fact, my favorite fantasy series is "the Dresden Files" which is not very poetic, but has an amazing story (you could call it derivative in a sense) where pretty much everything exists (vampires, werewolves, ghosts, ghouls, Norse gods, Greek gods, Queen Mab, wizardry, native American skinwalkers, Grendel, Cthulhu, angels... etc). The universe is huge and it feels like we're just getting started when were at book 14 (still quite a few more planned in the arc with books 15 & 16 coming out in a few months). It seems to follow the classic heroes journey as well, but doesn't suffer from it, but manages to create a deeply moving story.
