As part of dealing with this I wrote a simple Firefox add-on to highlight insecure links (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/insecure-links-highlighter/ https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/insecure-link...). Basically it gives you a big red border around any HTTP, FTP or dynamic link (that last one can be turned off as it makes sneaky places like Google light up like a holiday decoration).
