This article is ridiculous, the author is simply upset that many sports are closed for a season, and is looking for any justification to reopen. Yes the media blows things out of proportion, but the author even has a graph in the article that shows covid19 kills old people more effectively than flu and pneumonia!
The last few days have seen global upticks in infections, maybe they'll get their chance to write another article about the media being fearmongers once a few hundred thousand more people die and the death curve hits another flat spot.
Absolutely absurd.
- mrfusion 6y agoHow do you know what caused the dip? Are you sure it’s not any of these: 1. The most likely to die have already died 2. The virus has mutated to be less lethal 3. We are learning how to treat it better 4. Higher vitamin d levels in the summer 5. A younger population is now getting it 6. Some level of herd immunity especially in Europe and NY. (Im probably missing some)
- elsonrodriguez 6y agoIt's a straight forward leap from my proposed cause. This virus spreads from from person to person, so if you don't expose yourself to people, you are rather unlikely to get or transmit the virus. And if people don't get the virus, they can't die from the virus. The leaps from your suggested causes are much more complicated. If the second wave doesn't result in more deaths, then maybe it was one your proposed causes, and it'll be interesting to see how they contributed. If deaths do spike again, then could you please stop spamming Hacker News with anti covid "skepticism"? Because if you continue to post and share these things in spite of a pile of dead bodies, you'd be complicit in the deaths from the third wave (if any).
