I'm getting the impression that Apple wants to merge the desktop/iOS/iPad platforms long term if you look at all the recent updates together.
- floatingatoll 6y agoThey've said in the past couple years in interviews that this is a bad idea - a bad direction to follow - and they don't intend to do it.
- read_if_gay_ 6y agoThen why are they doing: * ARM macbooks * iOS Apps on macOS * iOS look-and-feel on macOS * iOS features like Control Center, Widgets on macOS Each one of these might be justifiable in isolation, but viewed as a whole it paints another picture.
- DCKing 6y ago> * ARM macbooks Superior performance characteristics and vertical integration. > * iOS Apps on macOS > * iOS look-and-feel on macOS > * iOS features like Control Center, Widgets on macOS Because there's changes in how people want their computers to look and be used. New (and old!) users expect their Macs to work in a familiar way. Developers want to share their app infrastructure. There's absolutely zero reason for Apple to "merge" iOS and macOS together. I don't understand what people think Apple's endgame would be there, what nefarious advantage they would possibly get out of it.
- valuearb 6y ago* ARM notebooks provide higher performance with less power usage and substantial cost savings. * This enables easily running iOS apps on MacOS, so why not allow it? * Control and Widgets are useful UI concepts and Widgets have been around forever.
- floatingatoll 6y agoiOS gets some things right where macOS gets them wrong. That doesn’t mean that they’ll merge the operating systems, when they literally just split up iOS and iPadOS to allow more depth of differences between those platforms.
