not only rumors, but unpriced rumors?
and iphone SE is not a low margin example https://www.phonearena.com/news/apple-iphone-se-2020-teardown-part-prices_id124632 https://www.phonearena.com/news/apple-iphone-se-2020-teardow...
so question still stands, got any post jobs example?
- GeekyBear 6y agoI'll let the guys at Android Central judge how much value for the money the iPhone SE delivers: >I didn't think we would get to a point where an iPhone offers more value than Android phones, particularly in the mid-range segment. But that's exactly what's going on with the iPhone SE. https://www.androidcentral.com/iphone-se-2020-just-killed-pixel-4a-and-other-value-flagships https://www.androidcentral.com/iphone-se-2020-just-killed-pi... Feel free to ignore Ming Chi Kuo, but given his track record for accuracy and known good sources inside Apple's supply chain, people pay attention to what he has to say. More interestingly, will Apple use the same strategy of selling at entry level prices with a custom ARM SOC that outperforms the competition for an ARM Mac as well?
- vbezhenar 6y agoiPhone SE is absolutely not cheap when you can buy a powerful android for $200. It's not absurdly priced, but that's about it.
- GeekyBear 6y ago>powerful android for $200 Even the $1500 Android flagships are completely outclassed by that SE. On CPU: >Overall, in terms of performance, the A13 and the Lightning cores are extremely fast. In the mobile space, there’s really no competition as the A13 posts almost double the performance of the next best non-Apple SoC. https://www.anandtech.com/show/14892/the-apple-iphone-11-pro-and-max-review/4 https://www.anandtech.com/show/14892/the-apple-iphone-11-pro... and GPU: >On the GPU side of things, Apple has also been hitting it out of the park; the last two GPU generations have brought tremendous efficiency upgrades which also allow for larger performance gains. I really had not expected Apple to make as large strides with the A13’s GPU this year, and the efficiency improvements really surprised me. The differences to Qualcomm’s Adreno architecture are now so big that even the newest Snapdragon 865 peak performance isn’t able to match Apple’s sustained performance figures. It’s no longer that Apple just leads in CPU, they are now also massively leading in GPU. https://www.anandtech.com/show/15246/anandtech-year-in-review-2019-flagship-mobile/2 https://www.anandtech.com/show/15246/anandtech-year-in-revie...
- LoSboccacc 6y ago"a cheap porches is faster than an expensive corvette" yeah, that's about the point one slowly backs away from the thread and let fanboy do their things
- valuearb 6y agoNo a cheap Porsche is a much better driver than an expensive Corvette. Porsche is about the driving experience as much as speed.
- LoSboccacc 6y agothat's exactly the point, not everyone purchase by driving experience, and value is subjective, don't know why you're contrarian to the statement. the point is that nothing of value can come from arguing subjective points.
- valuearb 6y ago“Better driver” /= “faster”
- LoSboccacc 6y agowhat has that anything to do with my statement?
- valuearb 6y agoIt’s exactly your statement.
- LoSboccacc 6y agothere weren't many words, how come you missed the point completely?
- LoSboccacc 6y agothat's nice and all but it's a thread about aggressive pricing and I just linked you source for the Iphone SE having big fat margins, so, no, you're talking about another thing completely, the Iphone SE is not priced aggressively. it's at most built on the low end to compete strategically, and that has nothing to do with the point being made.
- brokencode 6y agoSo Apple makes a great product at a great price, and you still complain about their margins? What’s it matter what the margins are if it’s competitive with alternatives? It’s always kind of strange to me to see all the people who criticize Apple’s profits. Look at the profit margins of other major tech companies, and you’ll find they make similarly large margins.
- LoSboccacc 6y agoyou're mistaken, I'm not complaining. this thread is about apple margins and people that is arguing they will transfer margins into lower margins. I really don't know why you're arguing about product value. this is the thread starter: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23598122 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23598122 what has your point about prices and product quality anything to do with this?
