> If you’re a self-taught engineer or bootcamp grad, you owe it to yourself to learn computer science.
No, you don't.
I know all these topics and I don't recommend anyone working in a corporate environment to learn any of this. It'll likely result in you resenting your job, your peers and the entire software industry.

I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit. For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.
1:16-18; King James Version
- thewarrior 6y agoWhat does it say about our industry if learning all this makes workers hate what they do ? By this logic we should cut down on advanced education so people stay content in dull jobs.
- hugey010 6y agoIsn't reduced education a method for keeping people content in most situations?

- alexashka 6y agoI've included a Biblical quote concerning this matter to point out that this is an old human problem, not merely an industry problem. > By this logic we should cut down on advanced education so people stay content in dull jobs. This would indeed be the case, if corporate jobs were an inescapable necessity.
- peferron 6y agoThat's just FUD. Recommending ignorance while quoting religious text is so over the top that it makes me wonder if you're just trolling.
- mesaframe 6y agoYou made a contradiction and then gave an irrelevant reason behind.
- robjan 6y agoThat biblical argument is pretty much the rationale for the events that take place in Farenheit 451 and the reason for the Great Firewall.
- kccqzy 6y agoIf you're a self-taught engineer without computer science knowledge, you'll find that you simply cannot work on the lower parts of the stack. Fine for you, perhaps, but it's not wise to limit your own career possibilities.
- non-entity 6y ago> It'll likely result in you resenting your job, your peers and the entire software industry. Jokes on you I resent my job and the industry already.
- mcguire 6y agoIgnorance is bliss! The biggest fish in the pond doesn't need to know there's an ocean next door.
