I thin the whole idea of measuring computer screen as 1080p, 900p and such completely idiotic. Computer screens should have some sane dpi values and scale the resolution according to the size. This is how it was before attack of 16x9 screens and Apple is the only company that is following that old trend. Even praised System76 have the same crappy 16x9 scrrens.
- HALtheWise 6y agoI'm tempted to agree with you, but at the same time, I think the appropriate value for a sensible DPI depends on screen size. Because smaller screens are typically held closer to the user, it's kinda fair to say a 4k TV and a 4k phone screen have the same resolution, in the sense that if both are at a distance so the screen takes a reasonable fraction of your vision, they will have the same level of visible detail. Within a device category that may be less true, but between categories resolution seems like a reasonable measure.
- zajio1am 6y agoFor plenty of users 96 DPI is sane value. Preference between higher DPI (e.g. 4K 27") and higher screen 'estate' (e.g. 4K 43") is a valid user choice.
