Ask HN: How can I add structs to bash?

I’m trying to write a Lisp in Bash, but while writing a recursive parser I really struggled with storing values in parallel arrays (it got fiddly). Having a data structure that can store both the type and value would be really useful, which can then be stored in an array. Has anyone ever added data structures in bash before? How did you do it?
