Katie Hopkins permanently suspended from Twitter
- spzb 6y agoContext for non-UK readers: Hopkins is a former reality TV (UK version of The Apprentice) star turned right-wing commentator who has previously been retweeted by Donald Trump
- anonymousiam 6y agoSome might consider banning somebody else's speech a "hateful" act.
- poooogles 6y agoWe don't have 'free speech' here in the UK. Her comments have instigated hate crimes [1]. This isn't a hateful act; she's an awful person that doesn't need amplifying. 1. https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/muslim-man-attacked-thugs-who-13237258 https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manches...
- anonymousiam 6y agoSo who are the gatekeepers of what speech is allowed and what speech is not? Must we all now conform to some proclaimed philosophy and not be allowed to even discuss alternatives?

- anonymousiam 6y agoI guess so...
- anonymousiam 6y agoAnyone in the US who is paying attention knows about the surveillance and censorship in the UK. Twitter is a US company.
- jrobn 6y agoFreedom of speech or the “right to say anything you want” is a myth. I’m sure you view would be different if someone started tweeting hateful things towards you that incited others to take potential harmful actions, no? This is the problem with the internet. It is evolving into a platform for disseminating hate and careful crafted malicious fake “realities” and events. Our society and our brains haven’t had time to evolve to it. All good things eventual evolve into bad. Something like that.
- anonymousiam 6y agoActually no. I'm not so fragile that I cannot bear to hear criticism or even abuse. Our younger generation has seemed to have invented some sort of new "right to not be offended." This is far more dangerous than "hate speech." I'm also quite prepared to defend myself, my family, and my property if necessary.
- Normille 6y ago>Our younger generation has seemed to have invented some sort of new "right to not be offended." I don't necessarily agree with the rest of your comments. But I upvoted you for this.
- gnusty_gnurc 6y ago> I’m sure you view would be different if someone started tweeting hateful things towards you that incited others to take potential harmful actions, no? Yea like BLM(the organization) saying we need to dismantle the nuclear family? I've had tons of experience with people in college (friends no less) that will casually talk like this: joke about guillotines, glorify Robespierre, etc.
- notkaiho 6y agoSource needed on this claim that "BLM(the organization) saying we need to dismantle the nuclear family"

- mmastrac 6y agoShe's had a history of questionable and inflammatory communications. She was sued for libel and lost [1] after accusing someone of damaging a memorial. And she cost the Daily Mail a pretty sum [2] after accusing a family of being extremists. - panpanna 6y agoWait, isn't this the fake crosspoint lady? Isn't there a meme about her aging faster due to all the hate she carries?
