I will say this: I am very, very glad my New York Times subscription was through Apple's IAP - because I could end the subscription easily. Had I paid NYT directly, I would have had to be on the phone with them. This doesn't justify 30%. I actually think it's fine for Apple to take a cut. Just not 30%.
